Mesothelioma Suffers More Likely To Get Blood Clots

A new study performed by researchers in Ankara, Turkey showed that those suffering from mesothelioma may also be prone to blood clots. A thromboembolic event (TEE) occurs when a blood clot (thrombus) forms and breaks free to clog another blood vessel. A clogged vessel can lead to pain, swelling, strokes, and can be fatal.

This study was performed on 178 patients diagnosed with mesothelioma between January of 2008 and June of 2014. Out of the group, 14 of the patients had blood clots and in two of those cases, the blood clots caused heart attacks.

The study shows that mesothelioma can be the cause for many other health issues that sufferers and their doctors need to be aware of.

Mesothelioma is a rare and fatal cancer that affects the linings of the lungs in most cases. In other types of mesothelioma, the cancer will attack the linings of the heart or abdomen, and, rarely, the testicles. Mesothelioma is caused by the exposure to asbestos fibers. Asbestos is an extremely durable and heat-resistant compound that has been used in a variety of applications, including the insulation of commercial ships, buildings, roofing materials, among others.

While the government tried to warn the employers as early as the 1930s that asbestos could be very harmful or deadly if inhaled, many employers ignored these warnings and didn’t protect their employees. This negligence caused many people to contract mesothelioma.

Because of this negligence, you have recourse to file a lawsuit against your employer if you are suffering from mesothelioma.
